Animal Farm / Communism to Dictatorship

1945 — 1945 Modern Age

“All Animals are Equal, But Some Animals Are More Equal Than Others.” is the motto of   “Unfortunate end of Unexpected Animal Revolution”.

Animal Farm is admirable allegorical story of Russian Revolution. It was written by George Orwell and first  published at 1945. Although it seems like childish novel, it was very difficult and takes courage to publish it at 1945.

World had been in war since 1939, there were two major alliances and USSR, USA and UK formation had began to win, they were at the doors of Berlin. Everything was looked on its way for them however there were 3 big states who were ready to chalenge for to rule the World and any little thing could breake their alliance. First four publishers refused to publish George Orwell's novel, finally he found a publisher who would changed his decision after consulting the Ministry of Information. It took more than 1 year to find a Publisher and finally Secker and Warburg company accepted to publish it.

As expected, it recieved both good and bad comments but what was the reason lie under these reactions.

First of all, Animal Farm is tough criticism to Stalin's USSR. As mentioned before, George Orwell uses animals in allegory method to tell a story of revolution and its evolution from communism to dictatorship, common interests to profit.

Animals' first 7 Commandments which were written after revolution by Snowball;

1 - Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.

2 - Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.

3 - No animal shall wear clothes.

4 - No animal shall sleep in a bed.

5 - No animal shall drink alcohol.

6 - No animal shall kill any other animal.

7 - All animals are equal.

Are firstly changed into

4 - No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets.

5 - No animal shall drink alcohol to excess.

6 - No animal shall kill any other animal without cause.

under Napoleon government and at last they are reduced in just one commandment

“ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL, BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS”

Revolution goals efficient production for less working and more leisure time, equality, free speech are switched with efficient production for more profit, one man management, class differences and prohibiton of criticism, on the other hand while its methods planning, assemblies and education were common, they are changed into for selected group(pigs).
