Pinocchio is one of the three worldwide best seller Italian books ever while the others are Macchievelli's The Prince and Dante's Divine Comedy.
Pinocchio is although a childish novel and seems like written for children, it is also a sample and guide which is for a nation at the begining of industrilization. Hardworking, dependaple, well educated and responsible people are necessary for industrilization, however both of these conditions had not been matched with Italian people at the mid of 19th century cause Italy had been the united nation since 1861.
Therefore, Carlo Collodi has created a character Pinocchio who lack of dicipline, responsibility, like peasants in Italy at that time. Pinocchio's ideal is to become a real boy (modern human) however he always chooses easy ways, joy, fun and rest instead of working despite warnings of Gepetto, The Fairy With Turquoise Hair and Talking Cricket. It was really original and striking novel, Pinocchio despite of his all bad behaviours, has became hero for children and he has been placed in Pantheon of childhood heros.
Like every childhood heros who had became international, Walt Disney did not miss it. But there was one big problem, Pinocchio is not sweet character. So, Walt Disney reproduced it as a pure and innocent and there was left only Pinocchio's lying behavior. Walt Disney's Pinocchio film achieved great success(1940) and Walt Disney's Pinocchio beat Carlo Collodi's one.
