The First Rule is Do Not Talk About Fight Club.
Unfortunately it is impossible to not talk about Fight Club since it is one of the most discussed, commented, remarkable and influenceable novel (and movie) in the late 20th century especially after David Fincher's film.
At the begining it was just a short story with 7 pages. It was 7 pages since Chuck Palahniuk was told by his writing teacher that optimum short stories should be 7 pages. Palahniuk wanted to build a story with scenes which are combined with an element not with character, as Citizen Kane. Therefore he used rules, 8 rules of any club to bond different scenes. The important thing was set of rules not fight club moreover kind of club was arbitrary according to Palahniuk.
Later on, he began to add the other stories to his short story. Many of them were taken from Palahniuk's friends' lifes, like pasting porno scene to original movies or pissing into a soup.
Laura Ziskin who was an American film producer and known with Pretty Woman and As Good As It Gets, optioned Fight Club novel by 20th Century Fox. She had four candidates for the name of director. Peter Jackson was busy with the Lord of the Rings in New Zeland. Bryan Singer never got back to her. Danny Boyle concentrated on Beach. And the last one David Fincher whose relations were not good with 20th Century Fox because of his last film Alien 3, accepted to film it. (the worst film of Alien serie.)
There were 3 main roles Tyler Durden who would became 21th Century legendary character, Narrator and Marla singer. Brad Pitt was choosed instead of Russel Crowe while Edward Norton was choosed among Matt Damona and Sean Penn. And although studio chosed Reese Witherspoon among Courtney Love, Winona Ryder and Helena Bonham Carter, Reese Witherspoon rejected the role since the character is too dark, and Helena Bonham Carter kept the role.
It was fantastic to watch Fight Club in cinema for the first time, we had no idea about film, we were there just for Brad Pitt and at the end of film, we were different people like most of people in the World. In the end we all had second character and all of them were same, Tyler Durden. It was more enjoyable to drinking, smoking, laughing etc. He was the sound from inside of us, and said there is something wrong.
You do not have to do things what most of people says
You do not have to choose what most of people choose.
We are the middle children of history and you do not have to prove something just live. Just live like what really you want.
We are the middle children of history, and every single of us not unique, we are worthless, waste of our age and decaying organic material.
And he was advicing to loose everything to feel free.
Thanks to Chuck Palahniuk, Laura Ziskin, David Fincher, Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter for to make us feel young and free. James Dean had done this for our parents and Brad Pitt had done to us.
